Professor Stephen Wright was appointed Acting Dean effective April 15, 2025. Professor Wright served as the Vice-Dean, Research & Infrastructure at the Faculty of Arts & Science. He served as chair and graduate chair of the department of ecology & evolutionary biology from 2019 to 2022, and served as interim chair and interim graduate chair from July 2023 until December 2023.

As a leading scientist in the emerging field of plant evolution genomics, Professor Wright’s research interests are focused on the genomics of plant adaptation and the evolution of plant genomes. Professor Wright holds the Canada Research Chair in Population Genomics, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and is the past president of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution.

Professor Wright completed his B.Sc. at the University of Toronto, his M.Sc. at McGill University and his PhD at the University of Edinburgh. He joined the University of Toronto in 2008 as an assistant professor in the department of ecology & evolutionary biology and was promoted to full professor in 2016.
