Professor Gretchen Kerr was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) beginning July 2021. Professor Kerr served as Vice-Dean, Programs & Innovation in the School of Graduate Studies, and as Vice-Dean, Academic Affairs at KPE. In addition, Professor Kerr was a member of the senior leadership team that designed the organizational structure of KPE as the collective home for academic programs, research, and co-curricular program delivery at U of T. She also chaired the University’s Expert Panel on Sexual Violence Education and Prevention, which laid the foundation for the education and training programs currently offered by the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre.
Professor Kerr’s research on the treatment of youth and women in sport has been widely recognized for its relevance and impact. For example, Professor Kerr forged partnerships with the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, the Canadian Centre for Ethics and Sport, and the Coaching Association of Canada. She has received awards from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport, from Gymnastics Ontario, and was the subject matter expert on the development of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport – which all Canadian sport organizations are required to adopt. She is also a recipient of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations’ Teaching Award.
Professor Kerr completed her AB in Physical & Health education at the University of Toronto and her MA in Physical Education at York University, before returning to the University of Toronto to complete her PhD in Exercise Science within the Department of Community Health at the Faculty of Medicine.
